Bombanana Lobbies, Room Codes and Playing With Strangers

Three ways to fill three seats

  1. Steam friends. Host, invite from the friends list, ready up.
  2. Room code. The host shares the code; anyone with the game types it in. Added at launch so people “can join each other without needing to add each other as Steam friends first” (Lefto, Aug 29).
  3. Server browser. Browse public lobbies from around the world and join one with an open seat. This is how the most-upvoted English review found “a perfect team of 3 monkeys” and cleared nine levels in one sitting.

Everyone needs a copy

Asked on the Steam forum whether all three players need to buy the game, the developer’s answer was four words: “Everyone needs a copy.” There is no guest pass, no Remote Play Together, and the demo that let people try it for free was taken offline on August 20.

Same room, three computers?

A parent asked whether the game works with three PCs in one room. The developer’s reply: probably only the Deaf Monkey needs to sit somewhere else — and if everyone is having fun, it may not matter that the Deaf Monkey overhears. Noise-cancelling headphones on the Deaf seat are the cheap fix.

Solo, duo or four players?

Not supported. The store page says exactly three, and a SW search sample shows “how to play bombanana with 4 p[layers]” as a recurring question; the answer is that a fourth person waits for the next bomb. Third-party demo mods that allowed solo play existed, but they targeted the demo build and are not covered here.

When invites do not work

“I can’t invite my friends and also can’t join them” was the busiest troubleshooting thread during the demo, and launch reviews still mention it. Order of things to try, from the developer’s pinned troubleshooting post:

  1. Both players verify game files (Steam → Properties → Installed Files).
  2. Check the firewall allows the game; turn off VPNs temporarily.
  3. Use a room code instead of a Steam invite.
  4. If only one person cannot connect to anyone, it is their network; if nobody can, report it on the Bug Reports forum.
