Bombanana Controls, Emote Wheel, Slapping and Colorblind
The emote wheel
An official screenshot shows a radial wheel of eight monkey faces: pointing, thumbs up, thumbs down, a shrug, an angry face, a confused face and more. At launch every role has it (“Emotes for Everyone”, Aug 29). For the Mute Monkey it is the whole vocabulary; for the other two it backs up voice — a thumbs-up from the Blind Monkey confirms an instruction without a word.
Pointing, nodding, slapping, throwing
- Pointing at a module or a manual page is the Mute Monkey’s main tool.
- Head nods (yes) and shakes (no) are read by the Deaf Monkey and are faster than any emote.
- Slapping teammates was added for launch (“obviously an essential feature”). Thirty slaps unlock Slapper; receiving 100 unlocks the hidden Punching Bag; 250 given unlocks Slap Maniac.
- Throwing bananas and bottles: being hit by 20 bottles unlocks OUCH!; landing something in the van’s basketball hoop unlocks Basket! and ten of them ŞENGÜN!.
- Flipping the bird is, per Lefto, “the most important” reaction.
None of this defuses anything. All of it is the point.
Controller and input support
The developer FAQ lists Xbox controllers, PlayStation DualSense and DualShock 4, and generic XInput pads. Steam’s own category tags add Full controller support, Keyboard Only Option, Mouse Only Option and Playable without Timed Input — the last one is an accessibility tag, not a gameplay claim; the bomb timer still runs. A Steam suggestions thread asks for an inverted mouse-look option, which the game does not have yet.
Colorblind modes
Two modes ship at launch, adjusting the colours on objects and the UI for two types of colour blindness. A launch-week bug: switching the game language to Spanish forces colorblind mode on and some players could not turn it off. The developer asked on the thread whether the On/Off label is simply reversed; until it is patched, try toggling it in the opposite direction or changing language.
Voice-synced mouths
When someone talks in voice chat their monkey’s mouth moves, in the lobby and in game. It is cosmetic, but it tells the Deaf Monkey who is speaking, which is the one bit of audio information that role can recover.
