Bombanana Roles: Blind, Deaf and Mute Monkey Explained
Sources reviewed:
| Role | Sees | Hears | Speaks | Touches the bomb | Manual | Job in the chain |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 🙈 Blind Monkey | Only outlines and dot clusters — the official screenshots show the blind view as white line-art on black. Cannot see colours or read screens. | Everything, including the Deaf Monkey's voice. | Yes (microphone needed). | The only role that can touch the bomb: cuts wires, presses buttons, flips switches, moves sliders. Hovering the Braille dots shows the number ('when I hover over the dots it says six' — xQc, Jul 4). | No. | Executes; reads Braille numbers by touch; confirms with head nods. |
| 🙉 Deaf Monkey | The whole bomb in colour and both teammates' gestures. | Nothing — game voice chat is silent for this role. | Yes (microphone needed). | Cannot defuse. | No. | Describes the modules out loud for the Blind Monkey and reads the Mute Monkey's gestures; the only role that can see both teammates. |
| 🙊 Mute Monkey | Everything, including the manual. | Everything. | No — voice chat is disabled for this role, so no microphone is needed. | Cannot defuse. | Yes — the only role that can open the bomb disposal manual. | Finds the right manual page and communicates it with the emote wheel, pointing, nodding and thrown objects. |

Which role should a new player take?
- Mute Monkey if you are nervous on voice or have no microphone. You read, you point, you nod. The 10-tips guide calls this role "the silent strategist": once you know the manual's layout you can have the page open before the Deaf Monkey finishes describing the module.
- Deaf Monkey if you are the talker. You narrate the bomb for the Blind Monkey and translate the Mute Monkey's gestures — you are the bridge, and you can validate answers with a glance at either teammate's head nod.
- Blind Monkey if you like execution under pressure. You cannot see colours or screens, but you can feel module outlines and every Braille cluster shows its number when you hover over it. Repeat the instruction back before you cut.
Rotate roles
The lobby has a Random Role button (rolling it three times unlocks the Indecisive Monkeys achievement, thirty times unlocks Rollaholic). Swapping after a few levels is the fastest way to understand what your teammates actually need from you; several launch reviews say the game only clicked once they had played all three seats.
Can two people play, or one?
No. The store page says "exactly three monkeys required" and the developer confirmed on the Steam forum that every player needs a copy. Use the lobby browser to fill a third seat.
